This is offset by his high mana pool, as he has third highest mana at level one, at 351, and gains about 45 mana each level, so you will be able to cast your spells often without having to worry about running out. This makes him very easily killed, and you must be careful where you are during the game, so that you can keep your team alive and not have to use your abilities to save yourself alone.
